On 29 July, the Vice Principal of Long Island Tzu Chi Great Love Preschool, along with two new staff members and five interns from the Tzu Chi Education Centre, visited our dialysis centre.
During the tour, Brother Wei Khai explained how faith and spirituality uplift dialysis patients as they face long-term treatment. A prayer altar offers spiritual comfort to all, regardless of religious belief.
Vice Principal Sister Zou was touched by Sister Hooi Theng’s story, which reminded her of the fear and helplessness she felt during her own battle with COVID-19. It deepened her understanding of the emotional toll of dialysis and inspired her to prioritize preventive health education in her kindergarten.
One of the new staff members shed tears as she recalled her own experience of being seriously ill and hospitalized for an extended period. She shared that she deeply empathized with Sister Hooi Theng’s journey.
The interns also praised the centre’s calming design and were inspired by the “hospital without walls” concept that extends care into the community.
