“Benefiting Self and Others” commendation awardee Muliani embodies gratitude through quiet action. Despite illness and financial strain, she volunteers at the centre’s bakery. Household finances were strained due to temporary changes and her son entering secondary school, expenses grew heavier. To save costs, her son wore an old uniform and carried a worn school bag.
Volunteers noticed this silent struggle. On Family Day, they surprised the boy with a full set of new school supplies—uniforms, a backpack, and shoes—to help him start the term with confidence.
That night, the boy’s joy overflowed. He wore his new shoes around the house and even fell asleep clutching the shoebox. Deeply moved, Muliani reminded him to remember this happiness, study hard, and one day pass kindness forward. His father echoed the same message.
A simple pair of shoes became a spark of hope, carrying love forward across generations.
