Buddhist Tzu-Chi Dialysis Centre (Penang)

As the Lunar New Year approaches, festive blooms and ink paintings brighten the Penang Tzu-Chi Dialysis Centre for its annual Family Day. Patients and their families explored stations featuring spring couplets, bamboo bank donation offerings, mindful prayers, and tea serving. For a moment, the heavy burden of treatment was replaced by laughter and peace.

Beyond a heartfelt reunion, the day marked the annual renewal of dialysis agreements. For the first time, a commendation segment was introduced to honor patients who work hard to maintain their health and give back to the community, proudly showcasing their resilience to their loved ones.

On stage, patients and volunteers performed the “Bamboo Bank” story through sign language and drama. They proved that they are not merely receivers of care, but individuals full of dignity, vitality, and the capacity to give.

On this day, the Centre is truly felt like home. Patients felt accepted, families found reassurance, and medical staff reaffirmed that the most profound healing often comes from enduring, family-like companionship.

“Every single day is like a blank page of our life. Every person we meet, every event we participate in is a lively essay.” —— Jing Si Aphorisms by Master Cheng Yen
