Buddhist Tzu-Chi Dialysis Centre (Penang and Butterworth)
Ahead of the Lunar New Year, a different kind of healing took place at the Centres. For many dialysis patients, especially those with limited mobility or visual impairments, visiting a salon or barber is a daunting challenge. Seeing this need, Staff Nurse Rafique in Penang and a dedicated volunteer in Butterworth stepped up, transforming the centres into spaces of comfort.
As hair was gently snipped away, so too was the heavy burden of prolonged illness. Patients felt an immediate sense of lightness and renewed dignity, smiling brightly at their refreshed reflections. For the nursing and volunteer teams, this act went beyond clinical care; it deepened their bond and trust with the patients. Echoing across both centres, these quiet acts of love ensured that every patient stepped into the New Year feeling respected, cherished, and full of hope.
“True goodness is to reach out naturally, without the slightest hesitation.” —— Jing Si Aphorisms by Master Cheng Yen
