Living with diabetes for over 30 years, alongside hypertension and stage 4 chronic kidney disease, took a heavy toll on Aunty Shanti (pseudonym). During a January home visit, our nurses noticed warning signs: high blood pressure, leg swelling, and a high-carb diet.

In a heartfelt chat, she revealed her deepest struggle: “I’m too afraid to ask the doctor questions or hear bad news.” This fear led her to keep her worries to herself, even self-adjusting her insulin doses.

Instead of just giving medical instructions, our nurses focused on building trust. They gently taught her proper insulin techniques, medication adherence and healthier eating using the “Healthy Plate Concept.”

Empowered by this trusting bond, Aunty Shanti no longer felt alone and bravely changed her lifestyle. Today, her blood pressure and blood sugar levels have significantly improved! Her journey is a gentle reminder that, sometimes, the best medicine begins with trust.
