Buddhist Tzu-Chi Dialysis Centre (Penang)

One Garment, Two Lives Connected

In the dialysis centre, three female patients chose to wear a story of hope. They purchased garments hand-sewn by women in Lumbini, Nepal—a result of a Tzu Chi vocational programme designed to turn skill into survival.

This journey of hope began on October 17, 2022, when a sewing class officially opened at the back of the Tzu Chi Nepal office. In a converted storage room, the steady hum of sewing machines and the earnest guidance of teacher Puja Khadka echoed the deep desire of these Nepalese women to uplift their lives. For these seamstresses, every stitch is a step toward independence; knowing their work is valued gives them the dignity to stand tall.

Despite their own physical struggles, these three patients proved that kindness is never limited by physical strength. While fighting their own battles, they reached out to support sisters across the globe who are also striving for a better life.
This is women empowering women, across borders, through hands that refuse to give up.

“Great Love makes no distinction between rich or poor, sees everyone as equals, and engenders kindness and harmony.” —— Jing Si Aphorisms by Master Cheng Yen
