Penang Buddhist Tzu-Chi Dialysis Centre
On February 8, the rhythm of machines at the Penang Tzu Chi Dialysis Centre was replaced by a collective focus on health.
During the “Eat Well, Live Well” workshop, dietitian Ms. Teong Lee Fang helped patients to unpack the science behind everyday food, demystifying the hidden phosphorus and sodium in processed foods. Phosphate binders were no longer seen as just medication, but as a vital shield for the heart and bones.
Some patients realised for the first time why their thirst must be managed, others learning how to estimate daily fluid intake and ease dryness without overdrinking. This workshop shifted the narrative of renal diets from restriction to empowerment—a way to live better, not merely longer.
For the nursing team, the session fostered deep empathy, allowing them to better understand the struggles behind dietary compliance. This workshop transformed care into a collaborative journey, leaving everyone with the confidence that caring for oneself is the ultimate source of strength.
“When you view the world, from a different perspective, the world becomes, vast and wide. Try shifting your perspective, in everything you do, and all will be, light and easy.” —— Jing Si Aphorisms by Master Cheng Yen
